What is GOTS?
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
Who issues it?
GOTS is managed jointly by four international organisations: Organic Trade Association (USA), IVN (Germany), Soil Association (UK), and JOCA (Japan). Certification is carried out by approved third-party certifiers.
What does it cover?
GOTS covers all processing stages — from ginning, spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing — right through to labelling, trading and distribution. A minimum of 70% certified organic fibres is required, with the premium 'organic' label requiring 95%.
